High Frequency & Infrared High Frequency

Clarify • Calm • Support

The modality

What Is It?

High frequency is a professional skincare modality that uses a specialized glass electrode and a gentle electrical current during face and body treatments.

At Complexion Co. Skin Studio, high frequency may be used when we want to provide additional support for breakouts, congestion, post-extraction skin, or other targeted concerns.

Depending on the treatment and equipment being used, traditional or infrared high-frequency techniques may be selected.

How it works

How Does It Work?

A glass electrode is placed on or just above the skin, creating a gentle high-frequency electrical current.

Traditional high frequency can produce a small amount of ozone at the skin’s surface and is commonly incorporated into treatments for acne-prone or congested skin.

Infrared high frequency produces a warming effect and may be selected when our treatment goal is focused more on circulation and supporting the appearance of healthy skin.

The technique, electrode, intensity, and treatment time are customized to the area being treated.

The experience

What Does It Feel Like?

Most clients describe high frequency as:

  • Gentle buzzing or tingling
  • Mild warmth
  • A subtle vibrating sensation

With traditional high frequency, you may notice a distinctive clean or ozone-like scent.

Treatment should remain comfortable. We adjust the intensity based on your tolerance.

Concerns it may address

What Can It Target?

High frequency may be incorporated when addressing:

  • Acne-prone skin
  • Active breakouts
  • Congestion
  • Post-extraction skin
  • Visible inflammation associated with blemishes
  • Dull-looking skin
  • Overall skin support

Face + body

Face + Body Uses

High frequency isn’t limited to facial treatments.

Depending on your concerns, we may use it on areas such as the:

  • Face
  • Back
  • Chest
  • Shoulders
  • Other targeted breakout-prone body areas

Our approach

How We Use It at Complexion Co. Skin Studio

High frequency is not automatically used on every breakout.

We first assess your skin and determine whether high frequency is appropriate for your current condition.

It may be incorporated after extractions, used selectively over blemishes, or included as part of a customized acne or corrective treatment.

The goal is always to choose the modality that makes sense for your skin that day.

Candidacy

Who May Not Be a Candidate?

High frequency may not be appropriate for everyone.

Certain factors—including pregnancy, pacemakers or implanted electronic devices, certain heart conditions, seizure disorders, metal implants in the treatment area, certain medications, or highly compromised or irritated skin—may affect whether treatment is appropriate.

We’ll review relevant contraindications before using this modality.

Afterward

What to Expect Afterward

High frequency itself typically requires little to no downtime.

Depending on the rest of your treatment, your skin may temporarily appear:

  • Slightly pink
  • Mildly sensitive
  • Calmer around treated blemishes

Any aftercare you need will be based on your complete treatment, not high frequency alone.

Frequency

How Often Is It Used?

High frequency may be used occasionally or incorporated more regularly into a corrective treatment plan.

Frequency depends on your skin, breakouts, treatment schedule, and the other modalities being used.

More frequent doesn’t automatically mean better.
