Aftercare 101

Facials Aftercare 101

Your Glow Continues at Home

Your facial was customized to your skin's needs using professional products, targeted techniques, and advanced modalities when appropriate. What you do after your appointment is just as important as the treatment itself.

Following proper aftercare helps protect your skin barrier, minimize unnecessary irritation, and maximize your results.

Please note: Your exact aftercare may vary depending on the products, exfoliation, peel, extractions, or modalities used during your treatment. Always follow any personalized instructions provided by your esthetician. When in doubt, choose the gentler option and contact us.

  • Extractions
  • High frequency
  • LED light therapy

Right after

Immediately After Your Service

Your skin has just received professional treatment, so give it time to rest.

You May Notice

  • A fresh, hydrated or dewy appearance
  • Mild pinkness or redness
  • Slight warmth or sensitivity
  • Temporary tightness
  • Mild tenderness in areas where extractions were performed
  • Increased sensitivity following exfoliation or a peel

For the rest of today:

Do

  • Keep your skincare simple and gentle.
  • Leave the products applied during your facial on the skin unless instructed otherwise.
  • Keep your hands away from your face as much as possible.
  • Drink water and stay hydrated.
  • Use clean pillowcases, towels and anything else that regularly touches your face.
  • Protect your skin from direct sun exposure.

Avoid

  • Picking, squeezing, scratching or peeling the skin
  • Scrubs, cleansing brushes or exfoliating tools
  • Retinoids, exfoliating acids or other strong active ingredients
  • Additional masks, peels or at-home treatments
  • Excessive touching of the skin

The first couple of days

For the Next 24–48 Hours

Your skin may be more reactive than usual during the first couple of days.

For the best results, avoid:

  • Intense exercise or activities that cause excessive sweating for approximately 24 hours, particularly after significant exfoliation or extractions
  • Saunas, steam rooms, hot tubs and very hot showers
  • Swimming in chlorinated pools or natural bodies of water
  • Prolonged direct sun exposure or tanning
  • Waxing, threading, depilatory creams or other facial hair-removal treatments
  • Facial scrubs, exfoliating brushes or cleansing devices
  • Retinoids/retinol
  • AHAs, BHAs and other exfoliating acids
  • Benzoyl peroxide or other potentially irritating acne treatments unless otherwise directed
  • Strong vitamin C or other active products if your skin feels sensitive
  • At-home chemical peels or exfoliating masks

What About Makeup?

Whenever possible, allow your skin to remain makeup-free for the rest of the day following your facial, especially after extractions, exfoliation or a peel.

If makeup is necessary, wait until your skin has calmed and use clean tools and non-irritating products.

The week ahead

For the Next 5–7 Days

Your skin should gradually return to its normal routine.

Reintroducing Active Skincare

Do not rush back into your actives.

Once your skin feels completely comfortable—with no unusual redness, tenderness, peeling or sensitivity—you may gradually reintroduce your regular active products.

This may include:

  • Retinoids
  • AHAs/BHAs
  • Exfoliating toners
  • Acne treatments
  • Strong vitamin C products

If you received a chemical peel or more intensive exfoliation, you may need to wait longer. Follow the personalized timeline provided by your esthetician.

Continue To

  • Cleanse gently
  • Keep your skin well hydrated
  • Support your skin barrier
  • Apply broad-spectrum SPF 30+ every morning (Reapply throughout the day)
  • Avoid picking any dryness or flaking
  • Limit unnecessary sun exposure

Allow any visible flaking to shed naturally.

Expected responses

What's Normal?

Every person's skin responds differently.

Depending on your treatment, it can be normal to experience:

  • Mild redness or pinkness
  • Temporary sensitivity
  • Slight warmth
  • Mild tightness
  • Dryness
  • Light flaking following exfoliation or a peel
  • Mild tenderness following extractions
  • Temporary redness around extracted follicles
  • Skin that feels slightly more sensitive to your usual products
  • New blemishes coming to the surface as the skin purges any underlying congestion

These effects should generally improve rather than progressively worsen.

  • Redness or irritation that continues to worsen
  • Significant or increasing swelling

  • Blistering
  • Open, weeping or crusting areas
  • Severe or unexpected peeling
  • A rash, hives or widespread itching

  • Any reaction you are unsure about

We would rather have you reach out with a question than attempt to treat an unexpected reaction yourself.

Between treatments

How to Maintain Your Results

Great skin is built through consistency—not a single appointment.

Cleanse

Use a gentle cleanser appropriate for your skin type morning and evening.

Hydrate

Use hydrating and barrier-supporting products to keep your skin balanced.

Treat

Use targeted serums and active ingredients recommended for your individual skin concerns.

Moisturize

Maintain a healthy skin barrier with an appropriate moisturizer.

Protect

Wear broad-spectrum SPF 30+ every day—even when it's cloudy and reapply regularly.

Stay Consistent

Avoid frequently changing products or adding multiple new actives at once.

Most importantly, follow the home-care plan recommended by your esthetician. Professional treatments can create change, but consistent home care helps maintain it.

Home care

Recommended Products

Your skin is unique. Product recommendations should be too.

Your esthetician may recommend a personalized home-care routine based on your:

  • Skin type
  • Current skin condition
  • Treatment performed
  • Skin goals
  • Lifestyle
  • Current products and active ingredients

Product recommendations do not replace individualized medical advice. Clients under the care of a dermatologist or other medical provider should continue following their provider's instructions.

When Should I Book Again?

For general skin maintenance, we typically recommend a professional facial approximately every 4–6 weeks.

However, your ideal treatment schedule depends on your skin goals and treatment plan.

Clients working toward concerns such as:

  • Acne and congestion
  • Hyperpigmentation
  • Uneven tone or texture
  • Dehydration
  • Signs of aging
  • Ongoing corrective skin goals

may benefit from a more structured series of treatments.

Your esthetician will recommend the appropriate frequency based on how your skin responds and what we're working toward together.

Want more than maintenance?

Turn Individual Treatments Into a Skin Plan

If you're working toward a specific skin goal, consistency matters.

Our facial treatment packages are designed for clients who want to move beyond occasional facials and follow a structured treatment plan.

Packages can help you:

  • Stay consistent with recommended treatment timing
  • Build on the progress of each previous appointment
  • Target specific skin concerns over time
  • Make professional skincare part of your routine
  • Receive a treatment plan tailored to your goals

Rather than starting over at every appointment, each treatment becomes part of the bigger picture.
