Aftercare 101
Smooth Skin Starts With What You Do Next.
Your body wax removes hair from the root while also creating mild surface exfoliation. Immediately afterward, the treated skin and hair follicles may be temporarily more sensitive to heat, sweat, friction, sun exposure and certain products.
A little extra care during the first few days can help keep your skin calm while setting you up for smoother regrowth between appointments.
Always follow any personalized aftercare provided by your esthetician.
Which services
This guide may apply to body waxing services including:
Other non-facial body areas professionally waxed by Complexion Co. Skin Studio.
If your service included an additional exfoliating or corrective skin treatment, follow the most restrictive aftercare instructions provided for the treatments performed.
The first hours
Freshly waxed skin may temporarily look or feel more sensitive than usual.
These responses should gradually settle.
For the rest of today:
Days one & two
Think:
Clean. Cool. Calm. Low Friction.
Give your freshly waxed skin time to settle before returning to your full body-care routine.
If your underarms were waxed, avoid fragranced or potentially irritating deodorants immediately after treatment if the area is sensitive.
Once the skin feels calm and comfortable, you may return to your usual deodorant unless otherwise instructed.
Freshly waxed skin should be protected carefully from UV exposure.
Use broad-spectrum SPF 30+ on exposed areas and avoid intentional tanning.
The first week
Once the initial sensitivity has settled, your focus shifts toward keeping the skin smooth and helping prevent ingrown hairs.
Wait until the skin is completely calm, intact and no longer red or sensitive.
For many clients, gentle exfoliation can be resumed approximately 48–72 hours after waxing, but sensitive skin may need longer.
Your esthetician may recommend:
More exfoliation does not mean smoother skin.
Aggressive or overly frequent exfoliation can compromise the skin barrier and create irritation.
Products containing:
should only be reintroduced once the skin has completely returned to its normal baseline.
If a product burns, stings or causes unusual irritation, stop using it and allow your skin additional recovery time.
Avoid shaving between waxing appointments if your goal is to maintain a consistent waxing cycle.
Allow the hair to grow naturally until your next professional wax.
No need to worry
After body waxing, it can be normal to temporarily experience:
Clients with thicker, coarser or denser hair may notice more visible follicular redness immediately following waxing.
Your skin should generally become less irritated as time passes—not progressively more irritated.

Between appointments
Once your skin has recovered, begin the exfoliation routine recommended by your esthetician.
Consistent, appropriate exfoliation can help prevent dead skin buildup around growing hairs and reduce the likelihood of ingrown hairs.
Well-hydrated skin supports comfortable regrowth.
Apply an appropriate body moisturizer regularly to keep the skin soft and maintain the skin barrier.
Avoid digging, squeezing or picking at ingrown hairs.
Picking can increase inflammation and contribute to discoloration or scarring.
Have stubborn ingrown hairs professionally assessed instead.
Clients prone to bumps or ingrown hairs may benefit from reducing prolonged friction from tight clothing, repetitive movement and damp or sweaty clothing.
Apply broad-spectrum SPF 30+ to waxed areas exposed to daylight.
Consistent sun protection is particularly important if you’re also working to improve the appearance of post-inflammatory discoloration.
Waxing works best with consistency.
Shaving between appointments interrupts your waxing routine by cutting the hair at the surface rather than allowing it to grow to an appropriate length for your next wax.
Home care
Your esthetician may customize your home-care routine based on the area waxed, your skin and your tendency toward ingrown hairs.

For the most consistent results, body waxing is generally maintained approximately every 4–6 weeks.
Your ideal schedule will depend on:
Hair grows in different stages, so your first few waxes may have less predictable regrowth.
Staying consistent allows us to work with your natural hair-growth cycle over time.
Avoid shaving between appointments and allow approximately ¼ inch of hair growth when possible before your next wax.
